AFC Wildcard Weekend 

The 2024 NFL playoffs kicked off this past weekend with the wild card weekend, giving fans six knockout games with the best teams in the league, putting it all on the line for a chance to win the Lombardi in New Orleans. 

The AFC opened the weekend with Chargers at Texans, Steelers at Ravens, and Broncos at Bills, with the 1st-seeded Chiefs having a bye week. 

The Houston Texans showcased their star-studded Defense in a commanding 32-12 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers, while having a strong start, were overpowered by a Texans defence that picked off Justin Herbert 3 times and completely shut the L. An offence down, leading them to a 32-12 win over a spirited L.A team. 

At M&T Bank Stadium, the Baltimore Ravens continued their dominant home form, dispatching division rivals Pittsburgh 28-14. Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson had awe-inspiring performances, going for over 100 rushing yards each, accounting for 3 of the four touchdowns scored by the home side. The much improved Ravens’ Defense smothered the Steelers’ late-game efforts, ensuring Baltimore’s place in the Divisional Round.

To close off the weekend, Buffalo showed why they deserve to be talked about as Super Bowl contenders, putting 31 points on a surging Denver side and holding them to a single score early in the game. Josh Allen reminded everyone why the Bills are Super Bowl contenders, racking up over 250 passing yards and two touchdowns while delivering multiple highlight-reel moments.

Now the playoff picture continues with the one-seed reigning champion Chiefs taking on the Houston Texans at Arrowhead in Kansas City for a place in the AFC championship game on Saturday. Having rested their starters for two weeks, the Chiefs are fresh and poised to take another step toward history. Houston, coming off a dominant defensive performance, will need another stellar effort to upset the champs on their home turf.

For the other spot in the AFC championship, Baltimore goes on the road Sunday night to take on Buffalo in what could be the game of the year, Sunday night’s showdown between the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills is shaping up to be the game of the year. With MVP frontrunners Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen leading two of the league’s most dynamic offenses
