Usyk / Fury

The Ukrainian handed the British star his second career loss in a razor-thin fight of the year contender. Following their first bout earlier this year, the anticipated rematch headlined a stacked card in Riyadh on December 21st, delivering drama and high-stakes action from the opening bout to the main event.

While the result remained the same as the first fight, Fury clearly tuned and adjusted his game plan from the mistakes of the last fight. The Brit came out using his superior reach and power to dominate the early rounds. His lengthy uppercuts and punishing body shots allowed him to control much of the action in the first five rounds.

Usyk quickly adjusted himself and started to maintain and capitalise on Fury’s mistakes with his footwork and jab; his advantage was hammered home when he scored a crucial knockdown in the 9th round, sending Fury flying with only the ropes holding him up.

The final three rounds were a show of heart and resilience from both men, but when the scorecards were read, there was little doubt in my mind that Usyk had done enough to retain his belts. The final scorecards were unanimously declared as 116-112 for the champion.

The final three rounds were a test of heart and resilience for both men. Fury continued to press forward, desperately looking for a finish, while Usyk maintained his composure and continued to land with precision. When the final bell rang, there was little doubt in my mind that Usyk had done enough to retain his belts. The judges unanimously scored the fight 116-112 in favour of the champion.

Looking ahead, Usyk now prepares to defend his titles against rising heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois. As for Fury, the loss has reignited speculation about a potential mega-fight against star Anthony Joshua, a clash boxing fans have been eyeing for years.
